This photograph is the key image for my project “Peaceful but Grand”, a series I started in 2020 in response to the Black Lives Matter protests across America.

I wish everyone could see what I see when I look at Black men. Tenderness, strength, vulnerability, poise.

To my mother who left this world chained, to my wife who is trying to break free from those chains, to my daughters who were born linked to those chains. This piece represents the black woman, who was always at a disadvantage from conception. As a dad of two beautiful black little girls, I want them to grow up being unchained black women!
